Can you run the iPhone Dev SKD off of a flash drive onto a Mac?
I run Linux on my home PC, but want to develop apps for the app store and I know it can only be run on a Mac. I go to Ohio State and we have a few Mac labs here but we can’t install stuff on them, so I was wondering if there was a way to run all of the SDK tools off of a flash drive and develop on OSU’s Macs.
I don’t know if this’d work, but it might:
On a Mac that you do have administrative privileges to, create a symlink at /Developer and point it to a new folder on your flash drive. Something like:
ln -s /Developer /Volumes/MYFLASHDRIVE/MacDevKit
Then install the iPhone SDK. Hopefully it’ll end up on your flash drive. You may need your flash drive to be HFS+ formatted in order for this to work. If it does work, then on a lab PC just make the same symlink and you should be golden.
